This position is located within the Translational Physiology Section (TPS), Diabetes, Endocrinology and Obesity Branch (DEOB), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).

Responsibilities

• Interviews and screens patients for entry onto protocols.
• Independently performs invasive procedures and metabolic testing.
• Monitors and documents response to therapy, ensuring the safety of study subjects.
• Maintains and analyzes computerized data and independently develops charts, graphs, and statistical analyses from clinical data.
• Directs and performs quality assurance and quality control activities as they relate to protocol adherence, protocol monitoring, data collection, data abstraction and data analysis.
• Participates in clinical practice peer review and regulatory oversight and develops multidisciplinary quality improvement programs and projects.
• Assists in designing and implementing specific protocols.
• Documents trends in patient conditions and assists in the development of patient management plans and manuscripts in response to the data obtained.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-0610-12 position you must have:

Education Requirements:
A. Completed a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

OR

B. Completed a Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Advanced Practice Nurse Positions:
For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position.

AND

Licensure Requirement:
You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

AND

You must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions:
Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.

In addition, in order to qualify for the Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-0610-12 position you must have:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: predicting and analyzing trends in patient conditions and developing a patient management plan in response to the data obtained; performing invasive procedures and evaluating and interpreting findings; providing patient and family counseling and health education; leading patient care rounds and conferences; serving in formal or informal leadership positions, such as preceptor to graduate students and Nurse Practitioners new to the organization.

You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
