Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Fort Eustis, Virginia. Fort Eustis is located in Newport News, between historic Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. There is local transportation via the Hampton Roads Transit bus service to the surrounding area which includes Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach. Convenient interstate and major highways connect the city to the neighboring cities plus York County, Gloucester, Suffolk, and Smithfield.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as supervisor over the Fort Eustis Fleet Management Expansion (FMX) Field Level Support Shop, exercising full supervisory responsibility over the work operations involving approximately 20 subordinate workers.
  • Issues instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines, and ensures work assignments are completed.
  • Provides information or decisions regarding problems that arise during work.
  • Analyzes work operations for status, progress, causes of delays, and other problems.

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires completion of the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) Course within 60 calendar days of employment.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties unless previously completed.
  • This position requires some physical exertion such as lifting up to 45 pounds and long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, or similar activities.
  • This position may require routine business travel (TDY) up to 10 percent of the time to other locations for temporary duty.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) PRIOR to employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Automotive Mechanic Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Ability to Lead or Supervise. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: establishing deadlines and priorities; assigning tasks to be performed by subordinates; and maintaining production reports and records. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Efforts: To accomplish work, must stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crawl, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts equipment weighing 35 to 45 pounds; occasionally lifts assemblies or other equipment weighing over 45 pounds with assistance.
  • Working Conditions: Usually works inside in noisy and drafty areas with hard surfaces and is exposed to dirt, grease, and fumes. May work outside in inclement weather, in heat and humidity, mud or snow and in wet or icy conditions. May be subject to skin irritations, fumes, dust, cuts, bruises, shocks, burns and strains. Is subject to noise levels above 85 decibels (A) and requires use of protective devices, such as protective hearing devices, hard hats, steel-toed shoes, gloves, respirators and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.
