Job Announcement

Works in the school health program assigned to public school sites. Provides a variety of public health using a multi-disciplinary approach serving diverse populations in the school community. Services and interventions include outreach which include home/school visits, community assessment, health promotion, education, case finding, care coordination and disease prevention for students, families and communities. Must have strong working knowledge of computers and data collentions skills (Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications). Must participate in the training, supervision and evaluation of unlicensed assistive personnel in a school health room setting.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus one year of work experience in a public health/community health setting; or two years of full-time post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
  • Valid motor vehicle driver's license.
  • AED - Required within 60 days
  • CPR -Required within 60 days


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience providing health services to school aged-children, excellent communication skills, experience working with ethnically diverse populations and working on interdisciplinary teams.
  • Must have a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with students, parents and colleagues.
  • At least one year of work experience providing education for patients/clients in a public health/community health setting.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative connections with internal and external partners.
  • At least one year of direct supervisory experience of paraprofessional staff, or demonstrated work experience monitoring and directing the work of others.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a sanction screening, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, bend, sit, kneel, reach, climb stairs, push, pull, and participate in recreational therapy. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Able to carry equipment and assist with client transfers from sitting to standing and lift up to 30 pounds. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing.
