Summary

The Deployed Resiliency Counselor (DRC) will serve as a credentialed clinical counselor, assigned to support a Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier (CVN) or Large Deck Amphibious Assault Ship/ Landing Helicopter Assault Ship (LHD/LHA) Command, deploying with the ship that they are assigned to, and providing support services to deployed forces aboard the ship while afloat and at homeport.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible to provide short-term individual therapy and psycho-educational trainings on sailor resiliency topics such as suicide prevention, domestic and child abuse, substance abuse and the prevention of sexual assault. Serves as a liaison to the homeport Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC), providing immediate response and coordination for allegations of sexual assault and as a liaison to the homeport Family Advocacy Program (FAP) executing safety plans, conducting interviews and treatment as recommended by the FAP. The DRC will support the Commanding Officer (CO) and brief the CO on sexual assault and FAP cases as needed, overall training plans and any other high-risk concerns that may arise. The DRC reports to the Fleet and Family Support Center Deployed Resiliency Counselor Supervisor for clinical supervision and administrative support.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - Occasional travel outside the region may be required in order to attend or participate in mandated DoD or Navy conferences, trainings or meetings.

  • Position requires a Secret Security Clearance to be obtained and maintained.
  • At sea, the incumbent shares a stateroom with a junior officer; meals are obtained by either joining the Officers' Mess as a paying member or by purchasing meals on the Enlisted Mess Decks.
  • Local travel may be required between installations.
  • Due to the unique nature of the position, selectees will be required to complete a physical examination upon entry to duty and annually thereafter and be determined to be physical fit for shipboard duty at all times.


Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

The incumbent shall be Tier III qualified as outlined in Navy FFSP Credentials Review and Clinical Privileging requirements. These include:

(1) Current, valid, unrestricted state licensure or certification that provides legal authority to provide clinical services as an independent practitioner.

(2) When the state licensing or certification requirements include a written examination, candidates must have achieved a passing score on that examination.

(3) Possess at least a master's degree from an accredited program in one of the following clinical fields: Social Work or an equivalent degree, Marriage and Family Therapy from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or an equivalent degree; or doctorate in Psychology approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) or equivalent degree from an accredited program.

(4) Must have engaged in 2 years (which includes at least 2000 hours) full-time, postmasters supervised clinical experience.

(5) Have two years, full-time post-license clinical experience.
