THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.


This National Guard position is for a Composite Fabricator (Title 32), Position Description Number D2316000 and is part of the VA 192 MAI SQ, National Guard.

Responsibilities

As a Composite Fabricator Leader (Title 32), WL-4352-10, you will perform the below duties:

1. Performs repair and maintenance of LO coatings and structural systems. Reviews maintenance work packages, identify areas to be repaired, modified, or restored. Strictly complies with technical order data, job guides, local maintenance procedures, and work control documents. Removes specialized LO coatings utilizing weapon system specific plan-form alignment procedures for each LO material application. Uses hand tools, and portable pneumatic tools to remove coatings and ensure TOD specified coating tie-ins are maintained. Applies materials and coatings within precise thickness parameters and verify coating thicknesses using various measuring devices (gloss-meter, surface roughness gage, wet film gauge, optical depth micrometer, etc.).

2. Performs repair and maintenance of composite, advanced composites, and thermoplastic aircraft structures using state of the art materials, methods, and procedures. Inspects plastics, composite and/or advanced composite materials for damage or deterioration. Repairs, fabricates, modifies, removes, and installs plastic, composite and or advanced composite items, parts assemblies, and structures. Restores damaged structures to original level of strength, durability and surface finish. Orients fiberglass, boron, carbon, or aramid fiber plies during layup process to facilitate proper repair. Prepares polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resins according to exacting specifications. Performs scarf repairs, metal bonded, and potted repairs to honeycomb cored materials and laminates. materials, machining, drilling, reaming, bonding, bolting, and final assembly of parts and components. Maintains and repairs specialized acrylic aircraft transparencies, i.e. canopies.

3. Performs evaluations and maintains aircraft Radar Cross Section (RCS) signature, ensuring aircraft signature integrity. Conducts Outer Mold Line (OML) inspection of aircraft surfaces in accordance with MAJCOM directed inspection intervals. Assesses damage to LO coatings and structure's such as RAM, RAS, and other specialized LO coatings and applications. Conducts inspections IAW B-2/F-22 Technical Order Data (TOD), F-35 Joint Technical Data (JTD), MAJCOM instructions, and local maintenance procedures. Accurately identifies and records LO system damage types, complex dimensions, and location plots. Utilizes the Integrated Maintenance Information System (IMIS) or Autonomous Logistics Information System (ALIS) and associated hardware to precisely enter information into the B-2 Information Maintenance System (IMS), F-22 Signature Assessment System (SAS) or F-35 Low Observable Health Assessment System (LOHAS).

4. Performs repair, application, and maintenance of corrosion preventatives and paints on aircraft, powered, and non-powered AGE. Identifies metal corrosion. Performs necessary testing to identify type of corrosion present by examination with magnifying equipment, chemical and mechanical methods. Treats aircraft engines in accordance with applicable technical publications. Identifies, blends, stores, controls, and disposes of hazardous materials such as acids, caustics, alcohols, solvents, cleaners, primers and surface coatings used for corrosion removal, treatment and protection in accordance with applicable directives. Removes corrosion by mechanical and chemical procedures to include use of portable powered (electric and pneumatic) sanders, buffers, brushes, bead blasters, vacuum cleaners, scrapers, grinders, acids, caustics, solvents, alcohols and other agents used in corrosion control processes. Treats metal with chemical procedures, such as pretreatments, to protect metal from oxidation. Performs functions such as pickling of metals to prepare for good bonding with primer coat of protective materials.

WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E-1/AB - E-7/MSgt) currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Air National Guard Military Technician Program.
GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Air National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Personnel (E-1/AB - E-7/MSgt), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.
GROUP III - Individuals eligible for membership in the Virginia Air National Guard.

Military Grades: Enlisted Personnel (E-1/AB - E-7/MSgt)

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Skilled in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately

  • Ability to format and write English in reports and presentation formats

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Applicant must have at least 24 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WL-09 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WL grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:
  • Must have at least one year of specialized working experiences in performing maintenance on B-2, F-22, and/or F-35 aircraft Low Observable (LO)/low signature.
  • Must have at least six months of leadership and training experiences in the military maintenance programs.
  • Must have working knowledge of aircraft structural maintenance, metals technology, survival equipment, and nondestructive inspection methods.
  • Must be competent in providing technical guidance and training to other employees who perform maintenance on Low Observable (LO)/low signature aircraft (B-2, F-22, and/or F-35).
