Summary

The Civil Rights Division (Division) is a key component of the Department of Justice and fulfills a critical mission in upholding the civil and constitutional rights of all individuals, including some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

This position is located in the Correspondence & Records Management Unit (C&RMU), Office of Facilities, Correspondence and Records (OFCR) in the Administrative Management Section (ADM), Civil Rights Division (Division or CRT).

Responsibilities

  • Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Reviews correspondence, such as memoranda reports, administrative and/or operational documents, program materials, etc., for compliance with agency policies, guidelines, and practices.
  • Monitors automated tracking systems to ensure assignments are distributed efficiently and responses from component personnel are handled expeditiously.
  • Provides technical assistance on correspondence complaint procedures to personnel in the areas of referrals, responses formulation and preparation.
  • Forwards complaints to the appropriate venue for response, investigation or legal action.
  • Prepares periodic reports of the volume and status of controlled correspondence to ensure that an organization is current and timely in its handling and closeout.
  • Prepares controlled correspondence reports and spreadsheets for various sections of an organization.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:

GS-11

Specialized Experience:
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service that included: 1) assisting in the review of submitted complaints, reports and official correspondence relating to alleged and interpreted civil rights violations; 2) monitoring an automated correspondence tracking system to ensure assignments are distributed efficiently; 3) forwarding complaints to the appropriate contacts for response, investigation or legal action; and 4) assisting in the preparation of reports analyzing efficiency and effectiveness of controlled correspondence programs. OR

Education:
Possess a PhD. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field of study directly related to the position that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (Must submit transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience:
Possess a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience to qualify me for this position. Only graduate education in excess of two full years (i.e. 36 hours) may be used to qualify. (Must submit transcripts and be reflected in resume.)
