Job Summary/Company:

Sparks Group has teamed up with a mortgage lending company and is searching for a dedicated Underwriter. The Underwriter will manage the workflow within the department and support existing and new initiatives and projects. They will be responsible for the development and improvement of underwriting guidelines and policies/procedures. Responsibilities:
  • Review of the loan applications and effectively communicate file status (approvals, declines, suspense and conditions) in a timely and professional manner
  • Assess the customer's credit by examining credit reports, bank statements, customer financials, and other reports
  • Validate loan application and supporting documentation and verify that the system reflects accurate information
  • Interact with quality control, compliance, production, processing, and disclosure compliance for problem resolution
  • Run credit improvement scenarios alongside Loan Consultants
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency
  • Keep abreast of industry standards and practices, including underwriting, processing, and compliance issues
  • Undertake ad-hoc portfolio reporting and analytics projects on an as-needed basis

Qualifications/Background Profile:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
  • 3+ years of mortgage processing and underwriting experience
  • DE status and prior FHA underwriting experience required
  • In depth understanding of mortgage regulations and banking systems
  • Knowledge of Government and Conventional mortgage and related guidelines
  • Familiarity with Encompass loan origination system is highly desired
  • Demonstrate strong technical skills to manage and compile financial data
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to think critically and analytically
  • Cultivate successful profitable relationships with the ability to collaborate with teams
