Summary

The Staff Assistant in the Veterans Experience Office (VEO) responsible for planning and controlling all administrative matters and programs under their purview by planning and monitoring action plans, evaluating corrective actions, and making recommendations for improvement. Coordinate the Veterans Experience Officer and Deputy Veterans Experience Officer schedules and day-to-day plans, including meetings, minutes, travel, and any communication material needed.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required.

Major Duties:
  • Coordinate the Veterans Experience Officer and Deputy Veterans Experience Officer schedules and day-to-day plans, including meetings, minutes, and any communication material needed. Assist in updating briefing reports and preparing other information as needed.
  • Lead and manage change in process, including the development of VEO correspondence.
  • Coordinate and schedule travel arrangements, plan for travel and lodging, prepare travel authorizations, and review vouchers to ensure timely accomplishment of travel; coordinate requests for information and appointments; screen calls and direct inquiries to appropriate staff; initiates calls for information pertaining to inquiries; and oversee the preparation and hosting of meetings by VEO.
  • Provide administrative office support requiring analysis of a variety of areas to include transportation and security.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/09/2020.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

Provide a copy of your last or most recent SF-50, "Notification of Personnel Action" to indicate your current federal status. You must also submit additional SF-50(s) to clearly demonstrate one year time-in-grade as required in the announcement. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate that you possess one year time-in-grade. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one year time-in-grade.

Your application must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:

GS-09: Applicants must also possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector, OR possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree (e.g. LL.B. or J.D.), OR have a combination of education and experience that equates to one year. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: identifying and analyzing issues and developing recommendations to resolve substantive problems and effectiveness of programs.

GS-11: Applicants must also possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector, OR possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related., OR possess a combination of education and experience that equates to one year. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning and monitoring action plans, evaluating corrective actions, and making recommendations for improvement.

GS-12: Applicants must also possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning and controlling all administrative matters and programs by planning and monitoring action plans, evaluating corrective actions, and making recommendations for improvements; developing office plans and updating projected milestones for management, such as case timelines and adherence to tasks; coordinate and schedule travel arrangements, planning for travel and lodging, preparing travel authorizations, and reviewing travel vouchers.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
