Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Education Specialist, Nurse Education Specialist in Behavioral Health who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing. The nurse education specialist supports life long learning and uses adult learning principles in the development and delivery of nursing education. The nurse education specialist is a subject matter expert in behavioral health care and supports standards of care, organizational policies and protocols in planning competency validation. The nurse education specialist partners with nursing staff and nursing leaders in a shared governance model to assess competency and learning needs. The team uses quality and patient experience metrics to guide in the assessment process. The Education Specialist demonstrates professionalism at all times and is an integral part of the nursing leadership team, representing their department at all levels of the organization.

• Educate patients and family through the continuum of care while striving to advance your own knowledge and skills.
• Demonstrate professionalism, adhere to ANA standards of practice, and exemplify the Adventist HealthCare values as they fulfill our nursing mission and vision.
• Utilize equipment and technology correctly, delegate non-nursing duties appropriately to maximize efficiency and effectiveness
Development of competency validation methods and tools.
• Application of adult learning principles.
• Strong knowledge and experience in behavioral health in an acute care setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge and experience with de-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication.

Qualifications include:
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree required, MSN preferred
• Valid Maryland RN license required
• Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and ACLS required
• 5 years of current Clinical Specialty in Critical Care
