Responsibilities

  • Advises leadership in the Office of the Director on developing and maintaining sound organizational structures, improving management methods and procedures, and ensuring the effective use of personnel, funds, and materials.
  • Develops alternatives and makes recommendations on ways to improve administrative support and overall functions for the Office of the Director, including the approval of personnel actions and requests for training.
  • Responsible for the personnel management functions for the Office of the Director, including the approval of personnel actions and requests for training.
  • Provides advice, guidance, and direction to the staff to ensure budget requests reflect and anticipate changing and/or evolving workload and priorities.
  • Develops plans, formulates, defends and justifies personnel and financial resources.
  • As first-line supervisor to the Executive Secretariat, manages the clearance process for materials processed through the Office of the Executive Secretariat to ensure documents are properly edited and approved in a timely manner.
  • Ensures quality and streamlined review and clearance of agency documents, planning and timely completion of projects.
  • Supervises the executive assistants in the Office of the Director to ensure principals are properly supported and that their principals' schedules are well managed to ensure they are prepared for meetings with senior officials.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, DHS requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. Supervisory/Managerial Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a twelve-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.

Qualifications

The position for which you are applying will be moving along with the USCIS headquarters to Camp Springs, Maryland in the fall of 2020. The new USCIS headquarters will be a state of the art facility conveniently located by the Branch Avenue Metro Station on the green line and a short distance from Exit 7 (Branch Avenue / Route 5) on the Capital Beltway. GS-15: You qualify at the GS-15 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position.
