Responsibilities

This Training Specialist position is located within Security Operations (SO), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If selected for this position, you will serve as a liaison concerning training matters between the Federal Security Director (FSD) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Headquarters, including the Office of Workforce Performance and Training and the Headquarters Aviation Programs Office. As a resource to the Federal Security Director's staff, you will assist in planning, directing, scheduling, evaluation and integration of training and professional services to the workforce; coordinating plans, programs, standards, and procedures governing airport-wide training and professional development products and services.
Typical duties include:
  • Assisting in scheduling, evaluating, and facilitating training, screener recertification, and screener performance improvement activities.
  • Assisting in providing advice and guidance to the FSD's staff pertinent to the training and career development needs and programs.
  • Maintaining training database and files; document training activities/accomplishments in web-based learning management system.
  • Assisting with keeping current on employees training status, and distributing information about upcoming training opportunities as necessary.
  • Assisting in the management of instructors (to include TSA Approved Instructors (TAI)), supporting the identification of individuals appropriate to provide screener on-the-job training, and coordinating with contractors who conduct training.
  • Acting as TAI or Test Administrator.
  • Scheduling new hire training.


Travel Required

Occasional travel - A minimum of one (1) week of travel in a full-time duty status will be required within 90-days of entry on duty to complete TSA's in residence New Hire Training. This training will occur away from the employee's duty station of record. Employees will be paid for compensable hours and reimbursed for authorized travel expenses per TSA Travel Policy.

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-H Pay Band, (equivalent to GS-12), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to SV-G or GS-11 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, such experience includes facilitating training events, either on-the-job or formal classroom training, for co-workers or subordinates; initiating, tracking and maintaining comprehensive training records; assists with keeping employees' current on their training status; assists in coordinating the execution of training plans; and preparing training related materials for briefings and meetings.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
