Virginia Commonwealth University’s Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC), School of Education, is excited to announce three vacancies for the VCU National Training and Data Center (NTDC).  We are seeking to hire two Monitoring and Support Specialists and a Monitoring and Support Supervisor who will serve as members of the National Training and Data Center (NTDC) Monitoring and Support Team.

The NTDC is a major project of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center, School of Education.  In July, the NTDC was awarded a new five-year $27.7 million contract from the Social Security Administration. The NTDC conducts training, certification, technical assistance, and professional development activities that support professional “benefits counselors” across the country serving Social Security beneficiaries with disabilities in “Work Incentive Planning and Assistance” projects. The NTDC provides training to over 2,000 individuals each year who assist disability beneficiaries to expand their employment opportunities and reduce their dependence on federal disability benefits. Annually, the Center provides dozens of on-site and distance-based training classes, a rigorous testing and certification program, web courses, live webinars, on-demand learning modules, an ongoing continuing education program, and extensive individualized technical assistance available through the NTDC web site (www.vcu-ntdc.org). 

The Monitoring & Support Specialists will perform a variety of administrative duties in support of Social Security’s efforts to improve project compliance with program standards and enhance program outcomes of community-based Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) programs nationwide.

Minimum Hiring Standards: Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, extensive prior experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint) to develop spreadsheets, complete data analyses, and prepare training materials and reports, extensive prior experience in copyediting technical reports, including verification of grammatical and technical accuracy, and complying with plain writing guidelines, extensive prior experience taking notes and preparing summaries of both in-person and online meetings, ability to meet Social Security suitability criteria, and a demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Hiring Standards: Prior knowledge of Social Security disability benefit programs (Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability Insurance, etc.), prior knowledge of community service programs for promoting employment and economic self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, prior employment experience providing work incentives counseling services to Social Security disability beneficiaries, and prior experience developing documents and spreadsheets that meet Section 508 accessibility standards to allow use by individuals with disabilities.

The Monitoring and Support Supervisor will perform a variety of administrative duties in support of Social Security’s efforts to improve project compliance with program standards and enhance program outcomes of community-based Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) programs nationwide. The Supervisor will report to the NTDC Project Director and establish work assignments and timelines for the two Monitoring and Support Specialists.

Minimum Hiring Standards: Bachelor’s degree or higher required; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, prior experience serving as direct supervisor to professionals performing data collection, data analysis and report writing tasks, extensive prior experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint) to develop spreadsheets, complete data analyses, and prepare training materials and reports, extensive prior experience in copyediting technical reports, including verification of grammatical and technical accuracy, and complying with plain writing guidelines, extensive prior experience taking notes and preparing summaries of both in-person and online meetings, ability to meet Social Security suitability criteria, and a demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
