Summary

This position is located in the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) in the Office of Mission Support (OMS). OMS is the administrative arm of TIGTA, and performs a variety of management services to enable TIGTA to accomplish its mission both effectively and efficiently. Additionally, OMS oversees the administrative services (e.g., human resources, procurement) that are provided to TIGTA by the Bureau of the Fiscal Service/Administrative Resource Center (BFS/ARC).

Responsibilities

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Receive, read, and pre-sorts incoming materials and determines forwarding organizational level (this includes USPS mail, express delivery packages, and courier-delivered items); perform related clerical duties such as acquiring, storing, and distributing necessary forms and shipping supplies; recommend appropriate shipping services based on customer needs.
  • Control, safeguard and distribute Metro fare cards to TIGTA employees who are on local travel. Maintain accountability of the fare cards, and replenish funds when balances are low.
  • Responsible for maintaining and tracking property for the OMS and the Immediate Office of the Inspector General; maintain current, accurate inventory records as required by various TIGTA policies.
  • Serve as backup OMS timekeeper in an environment in which employees are responsible for inputting their own time and attendance information into an automated timekeeping system.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

The work is primarily sedentary, although some lifting of boxes weighing up to 70 pounds may be required.

Specialized experience: For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Resolving operational and administrative problems.

Examples of this experience may include:

- Compiling, analyzing, and reporting volume statistics on incoming and outgoing mail and packages; OR
- Providing training to employees on use of the express delivery shipping software system; OR
- Controlling, safeguarding, and distributing local travel fare cards to employees while ensuring balances are replenished when low; OR
- Assisting employees with entries into an automated timekeeping system.

OR One full year of graduate level education (attach a copy of your transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit).
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Specialized experience: For the GS-06, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Providing assistance and resolving operational and administrative problems.

Examples of this experience may include:

- Administering and supporting agency users of an express delivery shipping software; OR
- Ordering and maintaining a sufficient inventory of mail and package shipping materials; OR
- Conducting inventory and maintaining current and accurate inventory records of personal property; OR
- Maintaining accountability of fare cards for employee local travel.

OR One full year of graduate level education (attach a copy of your transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit).
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Specialized experience: For the GS-05, you must possess one year (52 weeks) of general experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. General experience for this position is experience that involves dealing with others in person to person work situations and providing a variety of services for an organization.

Examples of this experience may include:

- Receiving and distributing mail and packages; OR
- Stocking shelves of mail and package shipping materials; OR
- Maintaining logs for tracking property.

OR You may substitute education for experience as follows: four (4) years of education above the high school level.
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-06 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-05, you must have been at the GS-04 level for 52 weeks.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
