Summary

This position is located in the National Headquarters of the Forest Service in Washington, DC.

This position serves as a program and administrative support coordinator for the Forest Service Washington Office (WO) unit.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of administrative and analytical duties that require an intimate knowledge of the affairs in a Washington Office.
  • Coordinates planning for conferences and meetings. Records proceedings and prepares notes of meeting for distribution to national leadership.
  • Administers and evaluates internal management plans, direction, and practices which require consideration and integration of specialized needs and modification to fit a wide range of variables.
  • Represents the head of the unit regarding a variety of issues or situations by attendance at internal and external meetings; in conferences with varied independent, governmental or educational organizations; and through high-level contacts.
  • Prepares letters, reports, and briefings for the Supervisor's signature and/or presentation to Members of Congress, high-ranking officials in other Federal Departments, or other important officials and constituents.
  • Acts as principal liaison with Congresspersons and members of their staffs, representatives of private industries and other Federal agencies, State and local government officials, leadership of key interest groups and private individuals.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11.

Specialized experience is defined as experience writing, preparing, and evaluating formal and informal correspondence, reports, statistics, and analytical documents for senior level officials; coordinating a variety of administrative projects; and providing expert analytical and technical advice and recommendations on matters pertaining to organizational processes, procedures, and policies.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

CTAP/ICTAP applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements and are determined to be well qualified. Well qualified is defined as receiving a rating of at least 85 out of a possible 100 based on responses to the occupational questionnaire.

RPL applicants who meet the basic minimum qualifications and have a rating of at least minimally successful on the most recent performance appraisal.

VEOA applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements and are determined to be among the best qualified. Best qualified is defined as receiving a rating of at least 91 out of a possible 100 based on responses to the occupational questionnaire.
