Responsible for independent clinical practice, providing individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and their parents. Provides evaluation and assessment of children/adolescents mental health needs including psychiatric diagnoses and treatment recommendations. Provides referrals for services as indicated. Provides collaborative consultation to the Attending psychiatrist regarding the child/adolescent functioning and progress.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Master's Degree

Minimum Work Experience
3 years

Required Skills/Knowledge
Ability to diagnose and provide evidence based interventions to children, adolescents, and parents.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Ind. Clinical Social Worker License District of Columbia - Req

Functional Accountabilities

Diagnostic Assessment
1. Formulates diagnoses for patients with acute or chronic mental health disorders. Diagnostically interprets data obtained from psychological test results, social histories, and interviews. Provides risk assessments for dangerousness to self and others.

Individual Psychotherapy
1. Provides crisis stabilization and crisis management
2. Is able to form a therapeutic alliance with patients from a variety of diverse backgrounds
3. Able to use a variety of therapeutic tools and evidence based treatment modalities
4. Monitors and provides feedback to treatment team psychiatrist on any reported impacts of psychotropic medication on patient's functioning and mental status
5. Completes required electronic documentation in a clear, concise, and timely manner
6. Continuously updates professional knowledge of current treatment techniques and research through attendance at seminars, continuing education courses, workshops, etc

Family Psychotherapy
1. Utilizes a theoretical framework for the focus of the family intervention
2. Able to encourage positive communication among family members
3. Recognizes progress and obstacles towards treatment goals and appropriately intervenes

Group Psychotherapy
1. Able to screen potential group members for appropriateness of group therapy
2. Able to express the goals of the group
3. Utilizes a theoretical framework for the workings of the group
4. Recognizes individual's progress/lack of progress in the group setting and appropriately intervenes.

Crisis/Linkage Services
1. Able to provide crisis intervention skills to highly distressed children and families
2. Able to assess for safety
3. Knowledgeable of community resources/supports for children and families to assist in the attainment of the treatment goals.
