Versar is seeking a self-motivated Senior Remediation Professional (Civil or Environmental Engineer, Geologist) to support our Springfield, VA or Denver, CO office locations (either onsite or as a remote worker). This position is organized under Versar s Environmental Services Group supporting the Remediation Technical Service Area (TSA) primarily supporting the DoD Environmental Restoration Program. The successful candidate must provide technical leadership, subject matter expertise, and broad-based multidisciplinary oversight to proposal and project teams within the Remediation group, conducting both internal and client-facing meetings related to project work, training/mentoring junior staff, and providing creative problem solving leadership. Must have subject matter expertise in one or more specific areas of remedial engineering (eg, site remediation optimization/exit strategy; vapor intrusion/vapor migration; critical process analysis; risk and exposure assessment; high resolution site characterization (HRSC); groundwater hydraulic control, recovery, and treatment; innovative technology applications; contaminant transport and modeling experience; emerging contaminants). Primary duties and day-to-day responsibilities include the following: Providing definitive knowledge of engineering or geology/hydrogeology related to site investigation and remediation technology, technology providers and services, products, vendors, subcontractors, lab scale/bench scale testing firms, and other subcontractors, consultants, and team partners to create robust teams for complex problems. Technical leadership for hazardous waste remediation under CERCLA and RCRA programs throughout the project life cycle with focus on remedy implementation and beyond. Formulate, plan, and develop Remedial Investigation, Feasibility Studies and Remedial Design projects/programs at hazardous waste sites (or RCRA equivalent). Perform background research, gather information, and interpret laboratory and field data to support technical activities. Evaluate data reports and draw comparison of results with similar analysis. Provide input for and develop written technical reports for delivery to clients, perform quality control review, and maintain deliverable quality to meet internal and client requirements. Demonstration of subject matter expertise (SME) for the analysis, design, installation, and operation of treatment strategies for wastes in soil, groundwater, air, sediment, drinking water, and providing scientific expertise to protect human health and the environment. Provide overall site management for both proposed sites and existing sites, including development of technical remediation approach, cost estimation, schedule development, identification of critical milestones, planning, reporting, and formal project management. Writing scopes of work and developing cost estimates and schedules associated with remediation projects for Opportunities with the Air Force as well as the EPA, USACE, National Guard Bureau, Navy, and other federal sector customers. Ability to understand and drive Risk Management for remediation strategies including development of Risk Mitigation and Contingency Plans for fixed price remediation. Independently manage tasks and work with other Project Managers on a variety of environmental projects. Provide direction, instruction, training, and leadership to support staff as a mentor for your work/sites. Attend site visits, observe, and evaluate client programs and activities. Specialized and highly desirable skills in the following areas will get immediate attention: Project/proposal Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Work Packages, and Project Planning understanding how to formulate tasks and plan activities to meet a project s objectives. Cost Estimating using WBS and Work Packages (from (1) above) to develop costs for project labor, supplies, materials, equipment, and defining subcontractor requirements. Develop solid technical scopes of work to solicit competitive bids from qualified subcontractors to support the project and meet objectives. Costs may be derived from master databases (RSMeans, Craftsman Cost Data, etc.), bids, bottoms-up estimates, vendors/suppliers, or other sources) Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft PROJECT (or related) to build a master schedule for projects by creating relationships to various tasks and work products in the schedule, defining milestones, and allocating costs to those milestones to create a payment schedule. Ability to lead or significantly contribute to large proposal efforts that require the skills described above. Experience working with or for AFCEC, especially as pertains to remediation and performance-based contracts. Writing samples from proposals and projects, including UFP-QAPP work plans, and various technical reports to satisfy RCRA and CERCLA requirements (RI, FS, Risk Assessment, etc.) may be requested. US Citizenship or ability to obtain security clearance for work on DoD installations is required.
