Summary

This position is located in the Department of Labor, Administrative Review Board, Washington, DC. The board performs a quasi-judicial function in deciding appeals cases.

Responsibilities

The incumbents exercise completely independent judgment in considering and deciding appeals and other matters which come before the Boards required by law and any applicable regulations. They sign decisions with which they agree or take such action as appropriate including that of writing concurring and/or dissenting opinions. Also included there in are the following responsibilities, exercised by the Chair and the Board Members: establishing general policies for the Board's operations; participation at Board case conferences and at oral argument; and other responsibilities necessary for the orderly and efficient disposition of all matters properly before the Board.

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this job that has given you the particular subject-matter knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within the field or a field that is closely related. You must demonstrate possession of specialized experience in the described duties in your resume.

Qualifications

The applicant should be well versed in law and the appeals process as well as have the ability to interpret regulations and to come to a consensus to determine an overall appeals determination with members of board.

Education

Education for this position is a requirement and applicants must possess a J.D. You will be required to provide an original copy of your transcripts at a later time. Applicants are required to be active members of the Bar in any US State or US Territory Court under the U.S. Constitution. Documentation of Bar License will be required before selection.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Candidates will be evaluated based upon the qualifications that are listed on their resume, therefore it is highly recommended that you provide a detailed resume to ensure you receive credit for all of your experience.

Your application/resume will be screened to determine whether you meet the minimal qualifications for the position, which will also include vetting potential ethics concerns, such as conflicts of interest, in consultation with ethics counsel.

If you meet the minimum qualifications and vetting is favorable, your application will be referred to a six-person review panel.

The panel will review the qualified applications and rank the candidates. The panel will send the applications of the top-ranked candidates to an interview committee, which will be comprised of the Deputy Secretary and a career ethics attorney from the Office of the Solicitor.

The interview committee will interview the top-ranked candidates and make a recommendation to the Secretary of Labor.
