Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair and renovation of facilities, buildings and equipment. Approximately 30% of assignments are related to locksmith work; 60% of assignments are related to building trades work such as carpentry, millwork, plastering, painting and electrical, and the remainder related to the maintenance of various mechanical and electrical equipment that is utilized in the healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Installs a variety of mechanical locking devices in security units.
  • Installs and adjusts a variety of commercially manufactured locking devices including combination lock which are typically installed in such security units as safes, vaults, cabinets, and chests. Installs devices with features such as dual locking capabilities, mechanical interaction with timing mechanisms, combination locks of actuating mechanisms.
  • Sets up coding systems involving varying types of locks and keyways.
  • Uses technical manuals to insure that various keyways are compatible.
  • Refers to building blueprints to determine total number of locks and those that can be keyed alike.
  • Does arithmetic to set up coding system and select the correct size of pins.
  • Repairs commercially manufactured locking devices.
  • Troubleshoots lockouts in neutralization techniques for lockouts caused by defective parts.
  • Selects points of least resistance in locking mechanism and drills or burns without harming the contents or destroying locking mechanism or container.
  • Manipulates combination locks and picks key locks.
  • Machines parts, solders or brazes broken locking parts together, fabricates parts when they are not available in stock, reshapes parts by grinding and filing.
  • Makes difficult judgments and decisions when modifying and reworking locking devices for special security objectives.
  • Works on mechanical locking components of security or surveillance systems.
  • Investigates, repairs and reworks locks.
  • Troubleshoots locking mechanisms that interrelate with equipment such a s monitors, alarms, timing mechanisms, sensors and other equipment in complete security or surveillance systems.
  • Disassembles lock, closely inspects for tool marks, abrasions and misaligned parts which indicate the possibility of tampering.
    Improvises and applies advanced neutralization techniques.
  • Maintains, installs and repairs portable and stationary industrial machines and equipment used in the production of goods and services.
  • Maintains, overhauls and repairs various types of relatively simple mechanical appliances and general equipment.
  • Services hospital equipment such as mechanical and motorized wheelchairs, geriatric and office chairs, carts, bed tables, equipment stands and floor cleaning machines.
  • Disassembles, lubricates and replaces parts.
  • Uses simple hand and power tools.
  • May make minor modifications to furniture and equipment to increase functionality.
  • Preventive maintenance.
  • Carries out routine preventive maintenance program for general hospital equipment.
  • Maintains a bench inventory of frequently used parts.
  • Performs interior and exterior building operations, repair and maintenance work.
  • Duties include work involved in constructing, altering, maintaining and repairing buildings, structures, partitions, panels, toot cabinets, bookcases, workbenches, and other items using wood, wood substitutes and composite building materials on maintaining, installing, repairing and weatherproofing roofs.
  • Measures, cuts and constructs building materials.
  • Independently plans and completes projects that involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture.
  • Performs work to close tolerances, exact fit, and structural soundness
  • Operates and uses a variety of tools by setting up, adjusting and maintaining tools to meet required specifications.
  • Plans and lays out carpentry projects.
  • Plans, measures, and lays out carpentry materials using broad knowledge of wood materials and substitutes with general and precision woodworking techniques.
  • Locates and eliminates and prevents roof leaks found in roofs or other roof openings.
  • Identifies and traces leaks and pinpoints leak areas.
  • Fabricates and constructs.
  • Makes and repairs high grade decorative woodwork for use in homes, offices and other public facilities.
  • Applies coating materials to a variety of surfaces or applies and finishes plaster surfaces in the construction and repair of interior walls and celling's and stucco exterior walls.
  • Applies special coating methods using standard tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, trowels, screeds, straight edges, viscosity testers, graining devices and wet and other thickness gauges.

Working Conditions: Work both in and outdoors. Frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, dust, grease, heat, fumes, and noise. Work in bad weather, in mud OF snow and in wet or icy areas. Subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations and bruises. Follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats and hard-toed shoes.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
