Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for a creative, collaborative and ambitious editor to join a team focused on exploring cutting-edge technologies that support our journalism, including spatial computing, AI-powered automation, interactive audio and 5G.

The ideal candidate will use exceptional communication and organizational skills to turn enthusiastic ideas into high-impact news experiments across the company. Experience in emerging technologies, product management or multimedia storytelling is preferred but not required. Management experience - whether informal, with project teams or formal, with direct reports - is a plus. Any candidate must have experience in shaping and executing ambitious ideas in collaboration with others.

Curiosity and an interest in exploring and defining what's next in journalism is a key component in this role as a leader at the intersection of news, technology and business. The deputy will serve as a public representative to external collaborators and advertising clients, work with the director to vet new partnership opportunities and represent The Post at regular public speaking events. In the future, moderate to frequent travel will be required.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. Once we resume normal operations, the position will not be eligible for remote work.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Candidates should upload a cover letter outlining their vision for the role and a resume that includes public speaking appearances to our jobs portal by Nov. 20. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Director of Strategic Initiatives Elite Truong and Managing Editors Tracy Grant and Krissah Thompson.
