Summary

Joining the Office of Investigations, will allow you to maintain the integrity of the nation's financial infrastructure and payment system, including maintaining prevention and response measures to guard against cyber and other computer related attacks. The Branch is responsible for the coordination & direction of all government obligation counterfeiting examinations, study & technical analysis of counterfeit currency, false documents of other government obligations and securities of the US.

Responsibilities

The selectee will serve as a Supervisory Document Analyst in the Criminal Investigations Division. Typical work assignments include:
  • Managing and directing work in progress to determine if supervisory instructions on work methodologies, techniques, priorities, deadlines and quality have been met.
  • Conducting continuing evaluations of effectiveness and adequacy of Branch programs, operations, work methods, and techniques.
  • Evaluating employee performance and reviews evaluation reports prepared by senior specialist.
  • Advising and training document analysts within the discipline of digital enhancement technologies used to aid in examining documents to determine authenticity.
  • Training personnel and other officials in an academic and/or professional setting and preparing detailed administrative, laboratory and statistical reports of the examinations performed and testifying as an expert witness in Federal, state, local, international and military courts and hearings, while under rigorous and direct cross examination.
  • Performing analyses using wet chemistry or instrumentation to examine features of printing processes, paper chemistry and document security features.
  • Explaining printing processes, their history and evolution and the steps necessary to properly analyze counterfeit currency and methods of production; and identifying security features in order to classify notes by applying a variety of techniques.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-14 level (starting salary $117,191) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level performing duties such as: managing teams or other employees, examining and comparing handwriting, printing, typewriting and other mechanical impressions in order to make determinations of identity or genuineness. Analysis of inks, toner, papers, other recording instruments, materials by chemical, microscopic and other methods in order to develop information useful in determinations of genuineness, integrity, security, origin, validity of date, or for restoration of mutilated or obliterated matter.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Your application will be rated on the extent and quality of your experience, education and training relevant to the duties of the position. If you meet the minimum qualifications, a score will automatically be calculated based on your answers to the vacancy specific questions to place you in one of three categories.
