Staff Diagnostic Radiologist provides a spectrum of image interpretation, image-guided procedures and patient care services within the specialty of Diagnostic Radiology.

Responsibilities

  • Attending radiologist in addition to their Musculoskeletal specialty will also provide some General Radiology imaging expertise as needed within the Radiology Service, in accordance with existing practices and programs.
  • Participates in administrative, academic, and research activities relevant to the Radiology Service, under direction and the supervision of the Radiology Service Chief.
  • Provides didactic and clinical education for resident trainees who rotate through Radiology service, in accordance with institutional training agreements.
  • Supervises and interprets diagnostic examinations within Radiology including different modalities.
  • Performs and interprets minor imaging guided procedures.
  • Develops protocols, policies, and procedures for Radiology examinations.
  • Participates in Tumor Planning Conference and other clinical and administrative activities related to patient care.
  • Participates in Quality Management activities such as peer reviews, image quality, equipment reviews and other activities as required.
  • Participates in institutional committees and boards as required.
  • Maintains BLS certification.
  • Supervises Residents in daily clinical work and ensure accurate and timely reporting of studies.
  • Provide trainee evaluations in accordance with institutional training agreements.
  • Interpret imaging exams including relevant exam comparison and correlation with clinical information in CPRS.-Generate reports that contain pertinent findings and measurements, a description of normal and abnormal structures, discussion of differential diagnoses, recommendations and impression.-Interact with patients to obtain relevant clinical history and physical exam findings within the scope of radiology practice.
  • Provide oversight and serve as resource for radiation and MRI safety and serve as resource for infection control practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday (Various tours include weekends, Holidays and evenings)

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: American Board Certification, Radiology is highly preferred

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Functional requirements include Light to Moderate Lifting (15 - 44 lbs.); Light Carrying (15 lbs. and under); use of fingers; both hands required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Both eyes required Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
