Summary

The USPS OIG is seeking students enrolled in college/university programs to fill our Student Cooperative - (Paid) position in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) located in Arlington, VA. The Student Cooperative Program is available for continuous employment throughout the year, while enrolled in school.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will analyze data, assist with the modeling and movement of data, as well as maintain agency databases. This position will play a key role in assisting our stakeholders and other team members while using analytical skills to visualize data into meaningful dashboards. This role lends the opportunity for the individual to gain exposure to the growing world of agency data, data management, and data modeling.

The Student Cooperative Program is available for continuous employment throughout the year, while enrolled in school.

This position is being advertised at the Administrative Band level. The base salary range for this position is $14.43-$17.44/hour. Locality Pay is authorized.

Sophomore $18.83 per hour includes locality pay
Junior/Senior $20.08 per hour includes locality pay
Graduate or Law Student $22.76 per hour includes locality pay

The student cooperative performs specialized duties with continuing responsibility for projects, questions, or issues that arise in the area of assignment/curriculum. Each assignment typically consists of a series of related actions or decisions prior to final completion.
  • Assist with the management and administration of SQL Server Databases.
  • Assist with documentation of data, data sources, data flow, and data catalog.
  • Design logical and physical data models.
  • Create scripts to build new database objects to include tables, views, materialized views etc.
  • Participate in SQL code reviews, SQL tuning, query writing.
  • Assist with communications, training documents, and AI bot assistance.
  • Effectively communicate with peers and management, orally and in writing, the status of tools, projects, support requests, and other tasks, as assigned.
  • Perform administrative tasks in support of data projects as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You must meet ALL of the minimum requirements.
  • Students must be currently enrolled full or half-time in an accredited college or university program, classified or academically ranked by semester hours as a Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate student. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPT STATING CURRENT ENROLLMENT STATUS, GPA AND IN GOOD STANDING)
AND
  • Must be in academic good standing as defined by the college or university, earning at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale.
AND
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Information Management, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Business or related field of study in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.


EVALUATION FACTORS

  • Experience with data or databases
  • Ability to find patterns in large datasets and think through the implications of technical and data design decisions.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Skill in written and oral communications and ability to apply those skills in coordination and problem-solving efforts.
You will no longer be considered for this position if you receive a zero (0) rating on any evaluation factor.

Failure to demonstrate that you meet all evaluation factor requirements will result in a score of zero (0). Upon receipt of a zero score, you will be deemed "not minimally qualified," and you will not be referred for further consideration.
