The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's role is to oversee various aspects of the energy industry, including transmission of electricity, natural gas and oil. We also analyze proposals to build liquefied natural gas terminals and interstate natural gas pipelines and license hydropower projects. This position is located in the Division of IT Operations, within the Chief Information Office (CIO). The CIO developes, coordinates, and maintains Commission-wide strategic and business information technology (IT) plans, develops the IT enterprise architecture, and ensures that all IT initiatives support all aspects of the Commission business plan and are compliant with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directives

Major Duties for the IT Specialist:

  • Oversees and directs the design and implementation of FERC's local and wide area networks and data communication services and data center operations. To include the preparation and maintenance of detailed design diagrams of all network levels. Plans, designs, engineers, troubleshoots, procures, installs, optimizes, decommissions, and operates network, servers, operating system software and peripheral network infrastructure equipment.
  • Applies experience and advanced technical knowledge applicable to his/her discipline to accomplish assignments.
  • Provides accurate and timely updates to leadership and the team.
  • Interact with customers to provide information in response to inquiries about products and services and to handle and resolve complaints.
  • Manage technical and service contracts and coinciding budgetary elements.

In order to meet the minimum requirements for this position, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level. Specialized Experience is defined as: Experience managing IT infrastructure projects including Cisco network device implementation, VMware 5.5, SAN/NAS storage, and Configuration Management.

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

We will review your resume to ensure you meet the basic qualification requirements. Your resume must address the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the Qualifications Section. Your resume should clearly show possession of these competencies. The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure operations and maintenance, data center operations, Disaster Recovery, System Life Cycle Maintenance, and Knowledge of contract management (COR).
  • Knowledge and experience in IT Infrastructure technologies and the ability to implement as well as manage them throughout the life cycle.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing, orally, and presenting information to leadership via various methods of communication.
  • Skills to include working with the customer to determine and issues or requirements. Be able to understand and articulate complex issues to customers, leadership, and team members in an understandable manner.
  • Knowledge of Contract and Budget Management experience to include COR duties, budget formulation, and management of current and future initiatives.
