The Office of Enforcement Operations (OEO) provides investigative & prosecutorial support, legal advice, and statutorily required review and approval in almost 40 distinct subject areas. OEO oversees the use of the most sophisticated investigative tools of the federal government, including electronic surveillance, the Federal Witness Security Program, media subpoenas, and witness immunity requests. OEO provides legal advice to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies on these programs.

As a Legal Assistant in OEO's Special Operations Unit (SOU), your responsibilities may include:
  • Creating, logging, and maintaining case files/electronic folders and routing and tracking public inquiries pertaining to SOU's portfolios.
  • Coordinating with Section and external leadership to schedule interagency meetings. Interfacing with visitors to obtain clearance information for SSO/CRM Sec, and arranging parking access for visitors. Greeting, signing in, and escorting visitors to SOU space.
  • Managing packaging and sending legal and other sensitive documents, including making courier arrangements, for receipt/delivery of classified, 3521 sensitive information and other confidential information management.
  • Printing, making copies, and assembling attorney and case analyst work product for routing to senior leadership and tracking progress of packages related to all five of SOUs portfolios.
  • Drafting or initiating return correspondence to requestors when files are incomplete; routing complete case files to attorneys, analysts, or paralegals for substantive review; and tracking progress of work and scanning/digitizing hard copy files once requests are completed.
  • Creating and maintaining partner agency contact directory.
  • Drafting transmittal memos to senior leadership and agency partners.
  • Monitoring main telephone line/voice mail and routing calls or taking messages for inquiries pertaining to all five of SOUs portfolios.
  • Implementing and improving upon administrative processes for more efficient workflow in the Unit.
  • Monitoring email inboxes for receipt of requests pertaining to all five of SOUs portfolios.
  • Ensuring restocking of office supplies, ordering of necessary equipment, and arranging maintenance service calls for equipment when necessary.

To qualify for the GS-8 level you must have at least one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-7 federal grade level. Examples of specialized experience include providing office automation support utilizing the Microsoft Suite to attorneys and paralegals; experience navigating Sentry, the NCIC/NLETS system, and NICS processes; assisting with the purchase of office supplies and equipment; and drafting and routing correspondence.
