This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), Office of Compliance (OC), Office of Drug Security Integrity and Response (ODSIR), Division of Global Drug Distribution and Policy, Import Export Compliance Branch located in Silver Spring, MD.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluates manufacturers, brokers, importers and some smaller firms where new or unusual features are present.
• Work with senior level to Perform segments of investigations involving complaints and track back investigations of injury or death attributable to products regulated by FDA.
• Perform import entry review requiring decisions to release or detain FDA Commodities based on document reviews, productions examination and/or sampling.
• Draft responses to correspondence from within and outside the agency concerning FDA regulated products for supervisor review and approval.
• Provide guidance and consultation regarding inspection and investigation methods and procedures necessary to accomplish compliance/enforcement/regulatory objectives.

Qualifications

The position of Consumer Safety Officer falls within the 0696 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-9/11, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 10/19/2020.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements

A. A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in quality assurance or a related degree that included at least 30 semester hours in one or a combination of the following: consumer laws, biological sciences, food science, chemistry, pharmacy, physical sciences, food technology, nutrition, medical science, engineering, epidemiology, veterinary medical science, legal investigations, law enforcement, or related scientific fields that provided knowledge directly related to consumer safety officer work. (YOU MUST UPLOAD/FAX A COPY OF YOUR OFFICIAL OR UNOFFICIAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS OR OTHER PROOF OF EDUCATION PRIOR TO THE ANNOUNCEMENT CLOSING.)

B. Additional Requirements:

GS-9: You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal service or public and private sectors performing the following; gathering and performing standard analyses of scientific data; assisting in reviewing and evaluating scientific data for efficacy and preparing reports on scientific/technical study findings..-OR-I have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree;.-OR- Combination of the required experience and education for this grade level. This experience must be reflected in your resume. Volunteer experience can be used as qualifying expereince.

GS-11: You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 in the Federal service or public and private sectors .performing the following; assisting in drafting regulations relating to medical products and analyzing regulatory or compliance documentations relating to medical products to ensure the quality of manufactured medical products. -OR-3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.-OR-Combination of the required experience and education for this grade level. This experience must be reflected in your resume. Volunteer experience can be used as qualifying experience.
