Summary

This position is located in the Office of Legislative Affairs of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The incumbent serves as a Senior Writer/Editor in the Office of Legislative Affairs, leading agency programs/projects and policy issues related to writing and editing and speeches, talking points, and statements on current issues in the banking and financial services industries for the Chairman and executive staff, and development/coordination of responses to Congressional Inquiries.

Responsibilities

- Serves as a technical authority and expert in the area of writing and editing sufficient to develop authoritative information for use by others. Coordinates and leads projects involving the editing, copy editing, and proofreading of correspondence, speeches, talking points, and statements on current issues in the banking and financial services industries for the Chairman and executive staff.

- Coordinates and manages projects involving the editing and revision process for significant writing projects, such as testimony, hearing transcripts, issue summaries, Congressional correspondence, and Chairman's correspondence from conception, through various stages of revision, and final distribution.

- Coordinates with OLA and other appropriate Divisions and Offices within the FDIC to lead efforts in drafting testimony for FDIC personnel appearing before Congress, and providing edits and proofreading of testimony for final copy.

- Provides advice and guidance to others in the OLA correspondence unit in coordinating the writing of Chairman's correspondence. Provides expertise in drafting and final editing of Congressional correspondence relating to policy matters.

- Leads and coordinates FDIC efforts with responding to questions from Congressional offices for information and assistance. Proactively engages with Members Congress, and Congressional staff, as well as with senior experts and Executive Managers within the FDIC and other Federal regulatory agencies as needed, with respect to developing responses to Congressional Inquiries.

- Interacts with the most senior-level managers and executives of the Corporation, including the Chairman, the Deputies to the Chairman, and other senior staff. Works closely with others in the OLA correspondence unit, the Office of the Chairman, the Office of Communications, and with senior staff in other Divisions and Offices to coordinate work projects.

- Advises the Corporation's senior level management on developing or new policy or procedures for the management of Congressional and Chairman's correspondence.

- Serves as a technical authority and expert in the area of writing and editing sufficient to develop authoritative information for use by others.

- Coordinates the gathering of information to be used in any writing assignment.

- On major drafting projects that involve several offices, helps establish drafting schedules for members of various writing groups and assumes responsibility for consolidating working drafts and preparing a unified product.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 14 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that includes senior-level experience leading agency programs or projects for the drafting, editing, and issuance of speeches, talking points, public statements, research papers, or correspondence on financial services topics.

agenda and legislative program, priorities, and goals.

4. Thorough knowledge of the mission, functions, organization, activities and terminology of the Corporation, banking agencies, banking industry, Congress and other related
activities.

5. An ability to write logically, clearly, and effectively using plain language.

6. Extensive and Expert knowledge and experience in drafting and editing written materials and correspondence at the highest levels within an agency.
