Summary

The Education Service line is looking for an enthusiastic RN to serve as the Mock Code Coordinator at the Richmond VAMC. This position will serve as QA and educational leader for the Resuscitation Education Initiative (REdI) Mock Code Training events according to the REdI Mock Code curriculum, assisting with local/regional training events and analyzing data. The RN will follow AHA Guidelines during mock code training events as well as train/mentor new REdI Mock Code Program (RMC) facilitators.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Responsibilities include those outlined in the REdI Mock Code Program Manual. Those responsibilities include:
    • rain/mentor new REdI Mock Code Program (RMC) facilitators;
    • monitor local RMC facilitator candidates;
    • report findings to locally responsible REdI Program Director;
    • data input/entry into online platform (OLP); develop scenarios using the mix and match concept from the OLP;
    • facilitate RMC facility events within their facility or VISN following the RMC guidelines;
    • facilitate a minimum of 2 REdI Mock Code Facility Events annually;
    • attend a minimum of 2 REdI Mock Code facility events annually to provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) input, monitor and provide appropriate feedback regarding adherence to discipline specific AHA guidelines during REdI Mock Code facility events;
    • collaborate with Facilitators for staff debriefing;
    • ensure decontamination of equipment and documentation of training events
Other responsibilities may include:
  • Collaborates inter-professionally to provide educational opportunities for the staff and trainees at Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVVHCS).
  • Collaborates with the DACOS/E in order to enhance/improve the overall education opportunities at CVVHCS.
  • Promotes consultative interaction in the establishment and maintenance of expected nursing educational frameworks within all areas of the medical center.
  • Assists in the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of the Mock Code Program for all levels of staff, which meets the regulator, accreditation and licensure standards and expectation.
  • Maintain BLS Instructor Training and ACLS Instructor training as assigned/required and for performing activities that reflect the educational, experiential and competency requirements outlined in the nine (9) dimensions.
  • Provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes and/or systems, improving outcomes at the program or service level.
  • Provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that impact clients and staff, including initiating and participating in ethics consultations:
  • Initiates creative approaches to ensure staff compliance with competency reviews and validation.
  • Collaborates with Managers, preceptors, and staff to facilitate staff development and competency assessment at the unit level.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in developing and facilitating annual nursing review activities.
  • Facilitates unit in services and training activities. Initiates/monitors education programs that identify gaps in practice, staff competency patterns and trends.
  • Serves as a consultant on educational matters and professional development.
  • Implements individual/group educational activities.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to plan and coordinate educational activities.

Work Schedule: 7:45 am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/21/2020.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing ( ACEN ) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( CCNE ). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in facilitating or instructing in-services, classes, or training programs for health care workers.
  • Applicant must be able to adhere to the REdI Mock Code Training Program Manual qualification guidelines by completing training within the first year of position.

Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
  • Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
  • Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
  • Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
  • Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
  • Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience.

Physical Requirements:
Lifting/carrying up to 45 lbs. intermittently, frequent walking, standing, sitting. Occasional stooping, kneeling, overhead reaching, fine manipulation, pushing, and/or pulling. In addition, occasional operation of a motor vehicle may be indicated. Some travel may be required.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time Nurses, and Nurse Anesthetists at the rate of 8 hours for each full biweekly pay period.
