Responsibilities

The Emergency Management Specialist will provide critical support to the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) in technical reporting and support in emergency preparedness and response in the event of an emergency event, terrorist attack, or in response to other natural or man-made disasters.
Incumbent will:
*Assists in performing a critical leadership and coordination role in ensuring the readiness of staff and systems to support FDA's emergency response activities during a foodborne illness/outbreak, natural disaster, terrorist event or other emergencies involving or impacting FDA-regulated products.
*During exercises and actual emergencies, assists in overseeing a range of vital duties in the FDA's Emergency Operations Center which assumes a leadership role in coordinating and supporting the Agency's response.
*Provides expertise in a variety of roles in the Incident Command Structure (ICS) and assists in coordinating and directing activities associated with deployment of OEM and FDA resources and assets.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for Emergency Management Specialist (Exercise Coordinator), 0089, at GS - 13, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 10/20/2020. You must have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal Service. This experience should demonstrate skill with assisting in the coordination and direction of activities associated with emergency operations/response plans and other preparedness documents, emergency exercises and the evaluation of exercises and/or responses to significant incidents.

In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
