Summary

Unpaid internships with DFC are offered year round in Washington, D.C., and can last from 12 weeks to 12 months. Within the Office of Structured Finance and Insurance (OSFI), the Project Finance team works to provide debt financing to projects located in less developed countries where such support will have a developmental impact.

Responsibilities

Interns on the Structured Finance team serve as junior analysts and may be involved in all stages of project approval as part of a project team. Interns typically work on three to six transactions, de-pending on the complexity of the projects and the amount of time an intern is available. Typical duties include:

• Reviewing applications for financing;
• Analyzing existing financial statements of the sponsor or of the project;
• Analyzing and running sensitivities on financial models of projected project cash flows;
• Writing country political and economic summaries and political risk analyses;
• Preparing portions of loan papers being presented to Credit or Investment Committee;
• Collaborating with Investment Officers to present the proposed loan to an approval committee;
• Working with members of other departments to receive required clearances; and
• Working with a project team to assist in the processing of disbursement requests.

• Must be currently enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment (at least part-time) in an accredited college or university
• Must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation
• Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt

Qualifications

Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university in a relevant graduate degree program, specifically in Finance, Accounting, International Affairs, International Development, International Relations or International Economics. Previous work experience, particularly in international business, is required.
