The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) at Old Dominion University is accepting applications for the Civil Rights/Title IX Investigator (full-time, 12 month) position.   This position independently plans, conducts, and documents investigations concerning complaints of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and protected class discrimination and harassment involving students, employees, and third parties. This includes providing detailed, unbiased reports regarding the findings of investigations. This position will be expected to act as an impartial party in conducting and documenting prompt, thorough, and sensitive investigations. The investigator also employs alternative methods to resolving complaints including but not limited to mediation.

Required Education: Master’s degree in related field or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience to a master’s degree.

Required Qualifications: Some experience conducting fact-finding and writing reports. Considerable knowledge of relevant laws (civil rights, criminal sexual assault, etc.) familiarity with OCR Title IX guidance and best practices; organization, planning, analytic and problem resolution abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to remain neutral and maintain sensitive information. Ability to prioritize and manage a busy caseload to meet sensitive deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work in and foster a diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Juris doctor or other relevant advanced degree. Working knowledge of complexities surrounding trauma and sexual misconduct, including sexual assault and sexual harassment cases; understanding of the civil rights investigation model under Title IX. Investigation training and certification. Some experience working for a university or government/law enforcement agency. Experience conducting criminal sexual assault, Title IX investigations, or other administrative investigations. Experience using a case tracking/management database.
