Summary

This position is located in the Division of Insurance and Research, Headquarters of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation performing programs for identifying, monitoring and addressing existing and emerging aggregate risks to the Corporation's deposit insurance funds.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers, analyzes, and prepares financial information pertaining to the financial services industry, the financial markets, FDIC-insured commercial banks and thrifts, with particular emphasis on those developments impacting insured institutions.
  • Performs analysis, using appropriate software tools, of the financial services industry, the financial market, FDIC-insured commercial banks and thrifts, with particular emphasis on developments affecting insured institutions.
  • Performs complex mathematical and statistical calculations related to industry analysis.
  • Performs financial analyses related to identifying existing and emerging aggregate risks to the Corporation's deposit insurance funds.
  • Participates in the production of FDIC publications to disseminate analysis to supervisory personnel, senior management of the Corporation, other regulators, the industry and the public.
  • Presents analytical results to the management and professional staff of the Division, the FDIC and other organizations with an interest in these topics.
  • Represents the Division in meetings with other FDIC offices and Divisions, and with outside groups, including other regulatory agencies and the public.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. CG-09: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade GS/CG-7 level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is defined as experience that includes performing financial analysis by applying established analysis methods and procedures and processing information for financial reporting and presentation.

OR

EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D., if related) or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education with major study in finance, business administration, economics, accounting, insurance, mathematics, banking and credit, law, real estate operations, statistics, or other fields related to the position OR COMBINATION of graduate level education as described above beyond the 1st full year of graduate education, and specialized experience as described above, that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

CG-11: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/CG-9 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is defined as experience that includes performing financial analysis applying established analysis methods and procedures, examining analysis in the financial services industry, and compiling and processing information for financial reporting, modeling or analysis.

OR

EDUCATION : Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education with a major study in finance, business administration , economics, accounting, insurance, mathematics, banking and credit, law, real estate operations, statistics, or other fields related to the position. OR COMBINATION of graduate level education as described above beyond the 2nd full year of graduate education, and specialized experience as described above, that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

CG-12: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/CG-11 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is defined as experience that includes analyzing and preparing financial analysis related to the financial services industry or financial markets, or collecting and processing information and using the information for financial reporting, modeling, or analysis, and identifying risks to deposit insurance funds.

There is no substitution of education at the CG-12 level.

1. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of financial analysis sufficient to perform a wide range of duties in completing assignments with some supervision.

2. Knowledge of standard personal computer tools, including standard spreadsheet, database, graphics and statistical packages, ability to access Web-based and mainframe data sources.

3. Ability to perform financial and economic analyses.

4. Ability to develop and present written reports and to relate findings and recommendations, identify problems.

5. Ability to apply financial, statistical, and mathematical methodologies (such as financial modeling, statistical analysis and simulation techniques) to illustrate and support conclusions about financial trends.

6. Ability to work with disparate parties to build consensus on issues and achieve results as part of a team.
