About the Position: This department has 24/7 staffing which provides the ability to perform scheduled surgeries during regular hours and urgent or emergent surgeries after-hours and on weekends and holidays. The surgeries performed may be laparoscopic, arthroscopic, or performed with DaVinci robots.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Operating Room):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts at the time of application)
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. (Note: You must submit a copy of your certification at the time of application)
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Note: You must submit a copy of your licensure at the time of application)
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience: One year of experience performing professional nursing duties, which includes assisting surgeons in the operating room with surgical procedures; assessing patients to develop perioperative nursing care plan; utilizing specialized surgical equipment; using sterile technique; utilizing automated systems and programs, such as Essentris and Composite Health Care System (CHCS); and educating patients on various procedures and processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Responsibilities
- Collaborates with surgeons in one or more surgical services to assess, coordinate, plan, and implement the newest approaches and practices to deliver efficient, cost effective surgical care for the beneficiary population.
- Conducts initial perioperative assessment, acquiring pertinent information, such as allergies, NPO status, and consent.
- Responds to the needs of the surgeon, anesthesia provider, and patient during each surgical procedure.
- Provides direction and training to military and civilian personnel, para-professionals, medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
- As required, functions as charge nurse of a particular shift, assuming the responsibility for promoting quality, cost-effective nursing care, within the framework of the medical treatment facility (MTF) philosophy and mission objectives.

- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
