The position is located in the Logistics Department within the Directorate of Collections, Archives, and Logistics, National Air and Space Museum (NASM), Smithsonian Institution (SI), Washington, DC. NASM maintains the world's largest and most significant collection of aviation and space artifacts, encompassing all aspects of human flight, as well as related works of art and archival materials.

  • Serve as the Assistant Director of Logistics with responsibilities of planning, coordinating, and directing a full range of administration and management services
  • Recommend courses of action designated to maximize the achievement in attaining the objectives desired through the subordinate structure
  • Monitor the sequence and timing of key projects and milestones and evaluates overall program accomplishment
  • Keep all parties informed of project status, changes in resources, and impacts on meeting established project timelines, tasks, milestones, and objectives
  • Coordinates with the Collections Department to develop, improve and/or employ tools and methods to track progress throughout the life cycle of the artifact deinstallation, movement, treatment, and reinstallation
  • Establish collection-related program goals/measures in order to forecast and track progress

Specialized Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. Specialized experience is defined as experience developing project and logistic plans, coordinating logistical services and programs to include identifying milestones, sequence of events and resources; and coordinating and problem-solving with stakeholders.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

  • Ability to manage the installation of artifacts into a museum exhibit
  • Knowledge of logistical methods, procedures, policies and practices sufficient for the development of preparation, restoration, preservation, installation, or conservation plans for moving large or small museum artifacts
