Location: The role is currently remote due to COVID-19, but applicants must be able to travel to and work from NRPA Headquarters in Ashburn, VA regularly. The Director of Operations and Finance who is the hiring manager for this position works in the Ashburn, VA office regularly. 

Salary Range: $63,000 – 75,000

NRPA is currently seeking an Accounting Manager to join our Finance department.

The successful candidate must possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, must meet deadlines, stay up to date with internal policies and procedures and deliver consistently good services to external stakeholders and staff. They must also exhibit the aptitude to cooperate with a team while setting up strong relationships and interactions with all tiers of the organization.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

General Ledger

  • Responsible for entering complete, accurate and timely accounting information into the general ledger
  • Performs monthly reconciliation of sub-ledger and other software solutions to general ledger account balances
  • Performs monthly balance sheet accounts reconciliations and researches discrepancies
  • Proposes and prepares monthly journal entries for Director review and posting

Accounts Receivables

  • Processes incoming payments in compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Prepares invoices for products as services as needed
  • Researches collections issues and communicates with customers on all billing, receipt and collections questions.

Accounts Payable

  • Manages outsourced Accounts Payable vendor including; maintenance of chart of accounts, creating and updating approval routes, creating new vendor data and acting as gate keeper for all transactions 
  • Prepares manual checks as needed
  • Responsible for collection and maintenance of W-9 documentation and excluded database process (SAM.GOV lookup)
  • Leads 1099 annual process including preparation and filing
  • Manages monthly credit card process including; providing statements data to card holders, and coordinating coding and supporting documentation collection

Finance and internal controls

  • Substantiates financial transactions by auditing source documents
  • Maintains accounting controls by following existing policies and procedures
  • Secures financial information by following internal controls and keeps financial information confidential
  • Complies with federal, state and local financial legal requirements and stays informed of emerging changes

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent relevant training and industry expertise preferred
  • Three years or more experience in accounting cycle with emphasis in; Accounts Payable/Receivable, and G/L reconciliations. Great Plains experience a plus
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and fiscal responsibility
  • Ability to pull, analyze and organize data into understandable reports that can be used across a broad spectrum of stakeholders
  • Ability think strategically about process improvement
  • High level of accountability, accuracy and efficiency
  • Working knowledge of the full accounting cycle
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Travel expectations are minimal for this position
