Summary

This position is a Satellite (CBOC) station located in Henrico, established to meet the overwhelming demand for both Mental Health Primary Care Integration and Specialty MH care needs.

Recruitment/Relocation Incentives may be authorized for highly qualified applicants.

This position will require the incumbent physician to perform psychiatry on-call duties as required.

Responsibilities

-The physician is an independent care provider who is highly skilled in the management of a patient's mental health needs or sub-specialty evaluation and treatment.
-Carries outpatient clinical workload along with assigned administrative and professional responsibilities.
-Admits, evaluates, diagnoses, treats and provides consultation to a heterogenous mix of adult and elderly patients with mental and emotional disorders.
-Conducts history, physical and mental status exams, completes initial psychiatric assessments and formulates diagnoses in accordance with DSM-5
-Develops and presents treatment plans to the multidisciplinary treatment team and takes an active role in presenting cases for staffing.
-Provides psychiatric consultation to the emergency room as needed
-Orders all necessary laboratory and radiological assessments and will initiate consults and referrals as indicated.
-Provides ongoing and evidence-based pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy as indicated in the treatment plan.
-Maintains effective and up-to-date documentation of patient encounters in a timely manner and documents thoroughly and in accordance with the Joint Commission and VHA policy.
-Performs psychiatry on-call duties as assigned.
-Participates in professional and administrative activities as assigned.
-Is responsible for providing the highest quality of care for the area of assignment in accordance with scope of practice.

Work Schedule: 8:00AM-4:30PM (Monday-Friday) On Call as required, evenings, weekends and Holidays

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

The salary may be at any range listed for this vacancy announcement. Education, experience, board certification and length of practice are considered to determine applicant's final salary.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: American Board Certification is highly preferred.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: Functional requirements include Light to Moderate Lifting (15 - 44 lbs.); Light Carrying (15 lbs. and under); use of fingers; both hands required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Both eyes required Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
