Responsibilities

As an Administrative Support Specialist at the GS-0301-9/11, some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Assist senior Specialist in coordinating travel plans, airline reservations, rental/U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) vehicles, and other travel related needs between travel agencies and ODA HQ and Centers before and during large disaster operations, training sessions, conferences, and other large-scale or sensitive operations.
  • Reviews travel vouchers and audits travel voucher files for accuracy and adherence to agency and Federal policies. Assures timely submissions to Denver Finance Center for payment.
  • Using Microsoft Office applications to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint among others to prepare documents, correspondence, spreadsheets, reports, etc. accomplish work.
  • Interacts daily with travelers, Travel Management Company employees, and senior management in the performance of duties.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor during all telephone conversations while working to resolve customer issues.
  • Managing data across multiple systems as required.
ASC is located in the business area of Herndon, VA. It is conveniently located near various eateries and shops and is accessible via public transportation.

Conditions of Employment

  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Government travel credit card.
  • Favorable background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Mandatory Overtime: In order to respond quickly and efficiently to disaster survivors, substantial compensated overtime hours may be required while on assignment (up to seven days a week and ten to fourteen hours a day).
  • Credit score must be at least 500.


Qualifications

Generally, time in Non-Pay status is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed below.

You may qualify based on experience, education or a combination of both.


Experience: To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer or that experience will not be credited for meeting the specialized experience requirement.

GS-09: To qualify you must have at least 1 full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-07 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in positions such as Credit Analyst, Credit Underwriter, Mortgage Underwriter, Loan Officer, Loan Processor, Mortgage Loan Originator, etc. It may also have been gained in a Non-Federal service position. In addition, this Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Manages and/or coordinates various aspects of business travel, such as flight, hotel, and ground transportation using web-based travel systems;
  • Assist with tracking and monitoring credit cards issued to customers; AND
  • Reviews/examines travel vouchers for compliance with travel rules and regulations.
In addition to the specialized experience above the GS-07 level, applicants must indicate proficiency in Microsoft Excel sufficient to create spreadsheets with mathematical calculations.

GS-11: To qualify you must have at least 1 full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-09 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in positions such as Credit Analyst, Credit Underwriter, Mortgage Underwriter, Loan Officer, Loan Processor, Mortgage Loan Originator, etc. It may also have been gained in a Non-Federal service position. In addition, this Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Manages and/or coordinates various aspects of business travel, such as arranging flights, hotels, and ground transportation using web-based travel systems;
  • Tracks and monitors government credit cards issued to employees;
  • Reviews/examines travel vouchers for compliance with travel rules and regulations; AND
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
In addition to the specialized experience above the GS-09 level, applicants must indicate proficiency in Microsoft Excel sufficient to create spreadsheets with mathematical calculations.

OR

Education

If qualifying based on education, you must submit transcripts to be eligible.

GS-09: Must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field, or 2 full years of related progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, from an accredited college or university.

GS-11: Must have a doctorate or equivalent graduate degree in a related field, or 3 full years of related progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, from an accredited college or university.

Related graduate education: major study-finance, business administration, economics, accounting, insurance, engineering, mathematics, banking and credit, law, real estate operations, statistics or other fields related to the position.

OR

A combination of experience and education as indicated above.


Additional information

If you work or are expected to work at least 90 consecutive days and 130 hours per month, you will become eligible for health insurance benefits only.
