Summary

This position is located in the Office of Press and Public Diplomacy, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA/PPD). As a Public Affairs Specialist in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs Office of Press and Public Diplomacy , the incumbent is responsible for providing analysis and oversight on countering state and non- state disinformation in the NEA region.

Responsibilities

• Serves as bureau action officer for countering state /non-state disinformation in the region and NEA's POC for engagement on this issue and serving as liaison with relevant United States Government stakeholders.
• Drafts strategic communications plans and messaging that reflect U.S. interests and values.
• Advises Department and USG policy officials on program issues and problems; develops and proposes resolutions of program policy and procedural issues and coordinates implementation of management decisions on various programs.
• Oversee implementation of bureau public diplomacy initiatives in NEA countries, requesting and tracking the necessary program resources, evaluating the effectiveness of those programs, and making recommendations for follow-up activity.
• Provides timely reporting on foreign news, social media engagements and trending items (including those originally drafted in Arabic or other local languages), and public opinion trends on regional and country-specific issues.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements, including education and any selective placement factors described below by the closing date of this announcement.

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Experience fluently reading and communicating in Arabic dialects orally and in writing.
• Experience managing, monitoring, and editing web based Arabic social media platforms by utilizing Hootsuite, Meltwater, Crimson Hexagon, and Crowd Tangle.
• Experience working with Pan-Arab media, broader Arabic media and country or region influencers to liaise with groups/individuals for social media campaigns.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position
