SUMMARY The Lead Electronics Reliability Engineer is responsible for solving complex reliability and durability challenges for board-level electronic circuits and assemblies. This position requires significant industry experience in electronic component and system reliability, demonstrated industry thought leadership, and ties to industry and industry working groups. **The prefered candidate will have the opportunity to work remotely. RESPONSIBILITIES * Serve as the project manager, primary technical resource, and primary interface for customers on electronics reliability projects. In this role, the lead Consulting Engineer is expected to set the direction for, and motivate technical teams, contribute to the solution of technical problems, and provide concise written and verbal technical updates and reports for internal and external audiences. * Conduct design reviews for printed circuit board assembly designs and identify areas of potential reliability or durability risk as they relate to manufacturing, design, and end use environment. In addition to the functional and reliability aspects of a design, design reviews should include an assessment of all design for excellence (DFX) elements (DFM, DFT, DFC, and DFQ) to the extent possible, given available data * Lead customer projects related to accelerated life testing, development of reliability test plans, and reliability predictions. Work with lab engineers to conduct the testing, and analyze the results of reliability tests * Maintain strong ties to electronics industry groups and other resources to keep current on modern electronics technologies and position Ansys capabilities to solve these challenges * Mentor junior engineers in electronics reliability and help junior staff publish and get traction within industry * Conduct manufacturing or ESD audits of circuit board fabrication facility or contract manufacturing facilities as defined in customer Statement of Work MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS * MS or PhD in Engineering/Physics and fifteen years of experience in manufacturing, design, test, and failure analysis of electronics. Industry expertise/exceptional thought leadership counts in lieu of an advanced degree * Strong career focus on design, manufacture, or failure analysis of electronic components and systems, reliability engineering and physics of failure methodologies * Thorough understanding and ability to predict reliability for electronic components and assemblies, and develop complex reliability test plans/accelerated life tests * Strong understanding of electronic component and printed circuit board manufacturing/assembly processes, and related failure mechanisms and product reliability issues that tie back to manufacturing * Maintain strong ties to electronics/industry groups and other industry contacts to generate new business opportunities/keep abreast of new technologies * Ability to support sales personnel in technical discussions with customers as part of the sales process on new opportunities. * Excellent written and oral communication skills with internal and external customers and the demonstrated ability to explain complex topics to laymen in the topic. * Experience writing and presenting technical papers for electronics industry conferences * Experience developing and conducting technical training for internal and external customers PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * MS or PhD in Engineering/Physics and twenty years of experience in manufacturing, design, test, and failure analysis of electronics.
