Summary

About the Position: This position is located in the Business OPS/Integration Division Business Branch, DPW Fort Myers, VA.

Fort Myer is a 15 minute commute to/from the Arlington National Cemetery Metro Station, a 10-15 minute commute to/from the Rosslyn, Virginia Metro Station, the Installation is approximately 7 miles from Washington D.C.

A recruitment incentive may be authorized up to 15% based on management approval and eligibility criteria is met.

This is a 5 year Term appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Serves under the general supervision of Planner/Estimator Supervisor and receives direction from the Work Management Branch.
  • Independently plans and carries assignments through to completion receiving advice and assistance on unusual problems.
  • Assures that standard parts, available materials, and commercial items are used so far as practicable.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Planner Estimator (Maintenance Mechanic) without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform the most difficult and complex Planner Estimator (Maintenance Mechanic) duties such as Plans and prepares estimates for the construction, alteration, extension, modification, maintenance, and repair of installation facilities with primary emphasis in the areas of Electricity, Plumbing, Carpentry, HVAC, Signage, Keys, or Installation Ceremonies. Interprets plans and sketches contained in detail estimate for shop supervisor and works out details of modifications or additional work. Coordinates and maintains liaison with users of facilities, requestors, engineering personnel, contractors, subcontractors, and activity commanders to gather information, furnish advice or effect mutual accord on scheduling, plans, specifications, and contracts. Recommends that individual jobs be accomplished in-house by shops or by contractual arrangements as determined by type of work, equipment requirements, skills involved, shipping backlog, and funding requirements. Skilled in General Funds Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) and track status till materials are received for project. Considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Efforts: Work requires considerable walking, standing, climbing, and crawling. Lifts and carries moderately heavy equipment, such as ladders (25-80 pounds).
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside during all seasons of the year under all weather conditions. May work underneath buildings or in other close, poorly ventilated, humid
    areas, such as attics. There is danger of injury from falls off ladders and roofs; incumbent
    is subject to cuts and bruises during the course of estimating.
