Summary

The selected candidate will serve a Wage Leader in the Pipe Shop, in the Building Management Division (BMD) of OFEQ. In this capacity, the incumbent will serve as a team lead for a motivated group of maintenance mechanics, carpenters and plumbers who manage the modernization, improvements and maintenance of the Herbert C. Hoover Building which is the headquarters for the Department of Commerce Office of the Secretary, Washington, District of Columbia.

Responsibilities

This position is located in the Department of Commerce, Office of the Secretary, Washington, District of Columbia. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Lead Maintenance Mechanic providing maintenance and repairs to Herbert C. Hoover Building.
  • Performing tasks which include the operation, maintenance, and repair of Herbert C. Hoover Building plumbing systems, fixtures, fittings, and equipment.
  • Performing repairs to doors, masonry, roofs, windows, and performance of carpentry and painting services as well as small asbestos abatement projects.

Qualifications

WL-10: There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include:
  • The ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including managing the maintenance for a buildings plumbing systems, fixtures, fittings, and equipment; maintaining, and repairing a buildings plumbing systems, fixtures, fittings, and equipment; and planning, laying out, and completing small asbestos abatement projects. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.
  • The ability to perform the full range of tasks including planning, laying out, and completing small asbestos abatement projects; and repairing a building plumbing systems, fixtures, fittings, and equipment. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
  • The ability to perform common tasks including planning, laying out, and completing small asbestos abatement projects under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the Department of Commerce requires each and every employee to be reliable and trustworthy.
