Responsibilities

The Associate Program Director will be expected to work with program directors in developing and running programs to support research at the leading edges of CBET's and the Engineering Biology and Health (EBH) Cluster's programmatic areas. The Associate Program Director also will be expected to analyze and report on the portfolios of the EBH Cluster's programs and to participate in cross-disciplinary systems-related NSF initiatives.

The NSF Associate Program Officer works with program officers or senior researchers to provide an integrated and responsible effort for research program or an area of a research program. The goal and core strategies of NSF's Strategic Plan set the framework for all activities. The goals are: (1) enable the United States to uphold a position of world leadership in all aspects of sciences, mathematics and engineering, (2) promote the discovery, integration, dissemination, and employment of new knowledge in service to society, and (3) achieve excellence in U.S. science, mathematics, engineering, and technology education at all levels. Within this context, Associate Program Officers may assist in soliciting, receiving and reviewing research proposals, make funding recommendations, administer awards, and undertake interaction with research communities in the applicable fields.

Qualifications

You must meet eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a field of engineering or related science plus after award of the Ph.D., four or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.

The position requires a broad knowledge of the relevant disciplinary areas of the Division of Chemical, Biological, Environmental and Transport Systems and knowledge of the general scientific community. Experience working within a team environment and some administrative skills (budget, people) are needed. Appointees are expected to function effectively both within their specific cluster and as a member of crosscutting and interactive teams. Skills in multidisciplinary research are highly desirable.

This position is outside the competitive civil service.
