Responsibilities
As a statutory officer of the Supreme Court of the United States (28 U.S.C. § 673), the Reporter of Decisions is a high-level management position responsible for preparing the decisions of the Supreme Court for official publication, initially as bench and slip opinions, then in preliminary prints, and ultimately in the permanent bound volumes of the United States Reports . Major responsibilities include managing a staff of ten full-time employees, editing the Court's opinions in preparation for publication, and writing syllabuses of the Court's opinions for issuance with the opinions. The Reporter of Decisions works with the Counselor to the Chief Justice, Marshal, Clerk of the Court, and Librarian as one of five statutory Court Officers; and reports to the Chief Justice and the Court.

Qualifications
At least ten years' practical experience in the field of law is required, and at least five years' of supervisory experience is preferred. Editorial experience in the legal publishing field desirable. Demonstrated aptitude for prompt, succinct, and accurate legal writing required.
Education
A law degree is required, admission to a state bar desirable.
