Summary

This position serves as the Safety and Occupational Program for the Facilities and Administrative Services Staff (FASS), Justice Management Division (JMD). FASS has department wide responsibility for the development, monitoring and evaluation of environmental protection, energy conservation and management, and occupational safety and health programs. The incumbent is responsible for managing occupational safety and health programs for the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Responsibilities

Desirable Professional Qualifications: A Bachelor's or higher level degree in safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, or a life science such as biology is highly desirable.

The duties and responsibilities for a 0018 Safety and Occupational Health Manager generally include, but are not limited to, the following:
Makes recommendations to, maintains oversight of, and performs inspections to assess new or existing DOJ space to ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, National Fire Protection Association, and other environmental health and safety regulations.
Provides expert guidance and advice to the DOJ components on occupational safety and health programs.
Plans and develops strategies for occupational health and safety programs.
Coordinate activities among components and organizational representatives, develops best practices, procedures, manuals and other written documentation in support of programs, for the department.
Provides advisory services to senior management, drafts and recommends department policies; assesses, appraises, and reports on the health and safety regulatory threats to the viability of the DOJ programs.

  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.

Qualifications

Desirable Professional Qualifications: A Bachelor's or higher level degree in safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, or a life science such as biology is highly desirable.

To qualify for the position of Safety and Occupational Health Manager, (GS-0018-13), you must possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.

At the GS-13 level you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties: 1. Conducting safety and occupational health program planning; 2. Creating and delivering informational briefs for safety and occupational health programs; 3. Developing and recommending policies, procedures, and guidelines for safety programs; 4. Facilitating and coordinating safety and occupational health project/programs between agency components; and, 5. Preparing the Department of Labor/Occupational Safety and Health Administration annual report.
