SUMMARY The Systems Administrator provides support to the Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Broadcasting Division. This position deploys the release of new technologies as well as designs, installs, configures, maintains and performs system integration testing of PC/server operating systems, related utilities and hardware related to a broadcasting environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Troubleshoots server problems as reported by users and for complex hardware, software and network problems. Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products. Supports Web access and electronic messaging services. Maintains a secure systems environment. Provides new hardware specifications to users based on application needs and anticipated growth. Defines procedures for monitoring systems. Evaluates, diagnoses and establishes work plan to resolve system issues. Works on multiple projects as a project team member. Manages and oversees all operating systems and their corresponding or associated software. Manages communications and connection solutions, including local area networks, company website, intranet, and internet applications. Manages and ensures the integrity of host computers, multiple databases and data transfer. Works with helpdesk staff to support the installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of end-user desktops. Installs and configures messaging and printer systems. Provides on call technical support. Analyzes system or application usage relative to planned growth, anticipated needs and network capacity. Assesses system reconfiguration needs (minor or significant), and executes required course of action. Ensures connectivity of all workstations. Conducts research on emerging products, services, protocols and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts. Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to secure software products and services. Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, related documentation and technical specifications information. Administers / maintains end-user accounts, permissions and access rights. Performs network and security audits. Performs system backups. Monitors and tests server software performance. Provides statistics and reports. Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company. Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a related discipline, and eight (8) years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Experience in a TV and Broadcast environment preferred. Must have experience supporting and optimizing the performance of workstations, operating systems, networks, systems hardware and software that include Cisco and Netgear switch s ( models WS-x4648,M4300-24x24f, M4300-48x). CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES Expert knowledge of multiple system environments including networks Must have exceptional communication skills with the ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new concepts, technologies and environments Thorough understanding of routing and switching concepts along with a deep understanding in Windows Lan based technologies Knowledge of security within a TV and Broadcast environment Strong understanding of how to administer and implement Webcast encoding devices Ability to work in an Apple and Windows combined environment Ability to administer highly reliable systems solutions for delivering required business capabilities Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to effectively utilize available tools and resources to resolve issues Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent customer service and relationship building skills Ability to work effectively in self-directed manner Ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
