Desktop Support Specialist

The George Mason University College of Education and Human Development Office of Technology Support invites applications for a Desktop Support Specialist. Responsibilities: The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) Office of Technology Support (OTS) is looking for an individual to provide technology support to 300+ faculty and staff on multiple campuses and remotely. Applicants must be able to quickly and accurately diagnose hardware and software technology issues and create robust solutions as needed.

* Manage all CEHD classrooms and computer labs. Install and maintain classroom equipment, including computers, multimedia audio and visual equipment, printers, scanners, videoconferencing equipment, projectors, webcams, blu-ray players, document cameras, SMART Boards, and other associated equipment; * Create and deploy computer images for laptops and desktops; * Manage inventory and determine requirements for new equipment purchases and lab installations; * Perform equipment/system installations and maintenance including troubleshooting, cleaning filters, changing projection bulbs, connecting/replacing cables, adjusting audio/video output quality, software upgrades, and hardware replacement; * Help determine equipment and software requirements for activities/events, deliver supplemental equipment for classes and/or special events, and assure that the equipment is set up properly and picked up; * Provide software and hardware training to support a variety of instructional methods and techniques; * Set up videoconferencing and web conferencing as needed in CEHD conference rooms; * Install and maintain faculty, staff, and student devices to include computers, phones and tablets; * Provide virus remediation, backup and recovery on all devices as needed; * Communicate with vendors when technology issues cannot be resolved locally; * Respond to calls for assistance on and off campus.

Required Qualifications: * Ability to identify and correct technical issues by using root cause analysis techniques and problem resolution, both on site at physical location and remotely, utilizing remote assistance tools; * Recent hands-on technical experience with PC and Apple hardware and system diagnostics; * Recent hands-on technical experience with Windows 10 and Mac OS X; * Recent hands-on technical experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, Adobe Creative Suite, VPN, and 2FA; * Basic networking and network connectivity experience * Experience with imaging platform(s) (e.g., SCCM, WDS, FOG, etc.); * Significant demonstrated experience supporting a multi-user organization; * Must have driver's license and vehicle to travel to other campuses when needed; * Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications: * Excellent oral and written communication skills; * Demonstrated success with customer service and satisfaction; * Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; * Experience applying software packages to desktops, laptops, and mobile devices using SCCM or similar system configuration management software; * Recent hands-on technical experience with Zoom; * A+ or higher certification.
