COVID Team Nurse Practitioner

The George Mason University, Safety, Emergency, Enterprise Risk Management department invites applications for a COVID Team NP position. Responsibilities: The COVID Team NP is the on-site testing coordinator and lead member of three, two-person CHHS testing teams consisting of an RN and medical assistant at the on-campus testing site for members of the Mason community. The COVID Team NP is responsible for providing oversight of the on-campus location, coordinating with other members of the testing teams to ensure appropriate patient flow, adequate supplies, and communicates with couriers and off-campus laboratories as needed. The COVID Team NP is the lead for the three, two-person CHHS sampling teams and serves as one of the licensed testing team members. The COVID Team NP will provide the standing orders for the laboratory requisition for the COVID-19 test, and ensures the preparation and set up of all sampling/testing, collecting patient samples for COVID-19 testing through the mobile testing site occurs as scheduled, ensuring specimen samples and collection activities are documented properly, and patient follow up. The COVID Team NP also provides on-site assessment should participants need immediate medical assessment and coordinates with EMS for follow-up as needed. The scheduling for this position occurs Monday through Friday, with possible weekend rotations.

COVID Testing Site Procedures: * Aids in preparation and set up of all sampling/testing sites primarily located outside unless inclement weather requires indoor testing; * Ensures PPE and Safety precautions are demonstrated and in effect at all times; * Ensures all specimen samples and collection activities are documented properly.

COVID19 Testing and Sampling: * Under the supervision of the COVID Team RN, performs curbside and/or mobile sampling/testing for COVID and non-COVID specimen; * Collects samples from patients for COVID19 screening in either role of Clean Sampler or Dirty Sampler; * Clean Sampler role handles all non-infectious surfaces throughout sampling process; stays at a distance from patient, attired in full PPE of protective gown, gloves, N95 or procedure mask, and face shield; * Dirty Sampler role interacts with patient to collection registration form, verbal consent, and obtains Nasal swab from patient, attired in full PPE of protective gown, gloves, N95 mask, and face shield; * Demonstrates PPE and safety precautions at all times.

COVID19 Tracing and Ad Hoc: * Contacts patients with follow up as needed; * Works collaboratively with other university departments to facilitate testing and tracking of results; * May require local travel to obtain samples.

Required Qualifications: * Knowledgeable in advanced physical assessment, clinical decision making, and laboratory requisitions/ordering; * Experience with Electronic Health Records; * Experience with managing interdisciplinary teams; * Excellent Communication Skills, both written and verbal; * Ability to build rapport with patients; * Compassionate and caring demeanor; * A current Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) license in Virginia; * Healthcare Provider BLS certification; * Must be a graduate of an accredited graduate degree (MSN, DNP, or PhD) in advanced practice nursing with a specialty as listed above (FNP or AGNP); * Demonstrated Nurse Practitioner experience in a hospital or health care provider setting as an FNP or AGNP, minimum 1 year; * Demonstrated clinical background with competence to complete COVID19 testing.

Preferred Qualifications: * Demonstrated experience in Electronic Health Records, at least 1 year experience; * Demonstrated experience in specimen collection, swabbing, or blood services.
