Department of Information Sciences and Technology (IST): Administrative and Office Specialist

The George Mason University Department of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) within the Volgenau School of Engineering, seeks a highly qualified, motivated professional for an Administrative Specialist position. This position will work for one of the IST Offices, which is located at GMU's Science and Technology Campus (Sci-Tech) in Manassas, VA. The position reports to the Chair of the IST department. Responsibilities The incumbent is responsible for selected department administrative functions to include, but not limited to:

* Serving as ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) and APR (Academic Program Review) institutional support person. Organizing IST ABET documentation online, performing data analysis about IST students and student outcomes, providing qualified graphical and editorial support of faculty's ABET assessment work and APR assessment work * Serving as Audio-Visual (AV) and Digital Learning (DL) technical editor for online lectures, serving as administrative support for the AV and DL materials * Serving as the Administrative Specialist of the IST Department office at the Sci-Tech campus, providing contact, basic support and office management for IST faculty, adjunct faculty and teaching assistants at the Sci-Tech Campus * Greeting visitors and routing them to appropriate individuals, and answering questions concerning IST academic programs * Performing office duties including work on reports, spreadsheets, and ordering office supplies * Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, have good communication and interpersonal skills, and technical skills involved in the required documentation work. This individual must have knowledge of the AV and graphical software tools for data representation. This position requires someone who can effectively prioritize work assignments and manage time effectively.

Required Qualifications: * A few years' experience in front office or customer service environment * Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community * Proficient in computer skills (particularly Microsoft Word and Excel) and demonstrated experience with office software tools for editing images and videos, and email applications.

Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent training with two or more years of directly relevant experience. * Experience working in higher education, in an academic administrative office * Knowledge of university procedures, policies and regulations * Awareness of the assessment processes such as ABET or Academic Program Review * Ability to work efficiently with software tools used for data visualization, to edit graphs, images and videos, such as those commonly used in the university environment, e.g. in Blackboard (for example Kaltura) or Camtasia, or Adobe Premiere suite or equivalent.

About the Department: The Department of Information Sciences & Technology has 28 full-time faculty members. In addition to BS and MS programs in Information Technology, the department also participates in an interdisciplinary BS in Cyber Security Engineering, MS in Data Analytics Engineering, and PhD in Information Technology (concentration in IST) offered by the Volgenau School of Engineering.
