" Assistant Director of Family Programs

The George Mason University, Division of University Life invites applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Family Programs within New Student and Family Programs (NSFP).

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate Director of Family Programs, the Assistant Director facilitates the coordination, implementation and evaluation of the department's family programming, outreach and communication. Additionally, the Assistant Director assists with the program development and implementation of Orientation and other programs and initiatives serving the office's mission.

The position is comprised of five main components: (1) Coordinate the development and implementation of signature family programs, including Family Weekend, Spring Family Fling and Family Orientation; (2) Implement and assess the communication plan for family programs, including social media, weekly newsletter and websites; (3) Manage offerings for the George Mason Family Association; (4) Manage virtual outreach opportunities to engage families from a distance; (5) Supervise the Graduate Assistant for Family Programs. Additionally, this position will select, train and supervise undergraduate student employees focused on family programming.

Required Qualifications : * Master's degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling or a related field; * Must have a strong working knowledge of new student and family programs; student and family transitional issues; student leadership and training development; mentoring and advising of student leaders; * Must have experience designing, developing and executing large-scale programming initiatives; * Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are vital; * Must demonstrate experience designing and executing large-scale program assessment, and be able to analyze data and create meaningful reports; * Highly developed organizational management and problem-solving skills and must work accurately and efficiently in order to meet a multitude of deadlines and responsibilities; * Demonstrated leadership abilities; * Must have a commitment to diversity and be comfortable working within diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications: * One full-time year desired professional experience in a higher education environment; * Experience supervising graduate and undergraduate student staff; * Experience developing and executing communication plans.

New Student and Family Programs is an interdependent and fast-paced environment, providing the staff ample opportunities to communicate and collaborate across programs and initiatives. Flexibility to work evening hours and weekends, particularly during summer months, is a position requirement."
