Every day, staff at the Community Business Partnership (CBP) make a difference in the economy of Northern Virginia! In 2019, CBP's eleven member staff and two dozen volunteers created 317 business training events with 3,854 attendees. These events led to over 673 individuals receiving almost 1,000 hours of one-on-one business counseling. Those activities resulted in 56 new businesses as well as the creation/retention of over 600 jobs.

About the CBP: The Community Business Partnership (CBP) is an independent not-for-profit corporation that is part of George Mason University's Mason Enterprise Center under the Office of Research Innovation and Economic Development. Located in Springfield, Virginia, the CBP's mission is to be a complete resource center providing training and support to those seeking to start and build successful small businesses. CBP delivers entrepreneurial skills training to over 4,000 clients per year and also provides specialized support services, including one-on-one counseling services, networking events, three small business conferences annually, extensive referral network, small business incubator services, and access to capital.

The Small Business Development Center is one of five centers of high impact small business services within the CBP.

About the SBDC at CBP: The SBDC program at CBP is designed to deliver up-to-date counseling, training and technical assistance in all aspects of small business management. The SBDC at CBP in particular has a long and proud history of assisting established businesses to develop and implement high impact growth strategies.

The SBDC is part of a national network of Small Business Development Centers supported and sponsored by the US Small Business Administration.

Responsibilities: The SBDC Director will manage and direct the day-to-day operations of the SBDC Center, located at the Community Business Partnership, to a diverse client base and apply sound business management principles, practices, and techniques. The Director shall provide assistance for new business startups or business projects expansions in the Northern Virginia service region; oversee professional training class delivery; represent the CBP SBDC at regional professional events and associations; and work with other directors and management of the Community Business Partnership to raise additional funding as required to expand services and offerings to small business owners.

This is a grant-funded position contingent upon availability of grant funds. The SBDC at Community Development Partnership is part of the Virginia SBDC Network, a partnership program of the U.S. Small Business Administration, George Mason University, Mason Enterprise Center under the Office of Research and Economic Development. The position reports to the Executive Director of the Community Business Partnership.

Primary duties include: * Provide assistance for new business startups or business project expansion. This assistance shall consist of (but not be limited to) assisting with business plans, marketing strategies, loan applications, financial analysis, sources of finance, business structures, licenses and numerous other business issues for start-up and existing businesses; * Develop program proposals and budgets as well as implement programmatic activities; * Identify sources of revenue for the SBDC, to include sponsorships and program (workshop/training) income; * Manage and recruit professional volunteers to assist with counseling and training activities; * Identify and submit grant applications; * Provide in-depth guidance and advice to in-house business incubator clients on a continuing basis; * Develop, plan, implement, and lead adult learning educational programs as well as outreach assistance programs to include business-related workshops; * Market the SBDC program on local and state levels; * Network and leverage outside public and private sector resources and work with area businesses and the professional community; * Measure and evaluate the impact of program delivery and synthesize/analyze information in professional reports; * Work in coordination with CBP's other programs to strengthen and promote the organization as a whole; * Attend Virginia SBDC Network meetings and annual professional development conferences and participate in network-wide initiatives.

Required Qualifications: * Master's degree in accounting, business administration, management and/or public policy or an equivalent combination of education and experience; * Extensive background in small business issues and/or counseling; * Excellent verbal and written communication skills required as this is a highly visible position within northern Virginia's business community; * Proven leadership and an understanding of issues impacting small business owners; * Ability to provide business advice to starting or developing companies.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience as a small business owner, manager or advisor is strongly preferred; * Bilingual in English and Spanish.
