Responsibilities

As a Supply Management Specialist, you will:
  • Serve as an authoritative representative for the supply program. Assists in resolving policy issues at a major level of the organization, plan for and develop new policy and program guidance, and resolve problems in supply support operations and systems.
  • Maintains continuous liaison with the General Services Administration (GSA) and other suppliers to ensure timely and coordinated delivery of furniture, equipment and supplies.
  • Conduct inventories of furniture and equipment throughout the year and maintain inventory control records in an automated system and conduct reconciliations.
  • Analyze information, prepare entries for supply record systems, provide supply information, reports, and services.
  • Provide mail services using machine for processing customers request orders via UPS, and USPS as requested.
  • Maintain accountability records for non-expendable materials, traces acquisition sources and methods, resolve problems associated with timely deliveries and lead times, and arrange for disposal of surplus and excess property.

Ideal Candidate Statement:The Office of the Secretary is seeking a professional who is self-reliant and motivated to support the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Departmental Warehouse Program. This position is assigned to the Office of Facilities and Information and Asset Management, within the Property and Space Management Division that supports DOT's mission. This includes inventory and supply management functions, publication and exhibit distribution, bar-coding personal property, personal property data base management, property disposal, re-utilization and managing the computes for donation program and equipment nationwide.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).
  • TIME-IN-GRADE: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.


Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet either the education or specialized experience requirements for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

To qualify for the Grade 09 on Experience, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-07 it must include:
  • Experience in inventory, supply management principles, concepts and methodologies. Providing customer service, following up on inquiries from leadership and customers, and elevating problematic issues
  • Experience in performing on site analyses and provide feedback to management for inclusion in the decision-making process.

To qualify for the GS-09 on Education alone, you must have:

  • At least 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or have been awarded a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
  • You can also qualify based on a combination of graduate education and experience. This must be fully supported by your resume and transcripts, provided with your application.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Technical Competence - Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.

2. Communications - Knowledge dissemination of information and ideas to inform via written, and oral.

3. Technology Application - Uses machines, tools, instruments, or equipment effectively; uses computers and computer applications to analyze and communicate information in the appropriate format.

4. Production and Processing - Knowledge of quality control, maintaining inventory, and techniques for maximizing the distribution of goods.
